Although the male lions are the more physically imposing of these large cats, the lionesses do more of the actual hunting, and work together to drive prey toward an ambush. A typical pride contains 1d3 males and 1d5+5 females, as well as any number of cubs, although larger prides have been reported. Some lions are nomadic, either as solitary predators or in pairs, and may range over hundreds of miles.
